The Lilayi Green Market

Zambia has recently gotten on the plastic bag ban wagon, in most shops but as we are just starting out it is not completely implemented everywhere and not everyone is used to it yet purely out of habit. The Lilayi Green Market is changing that dynamic, it turned 1 this month so popped over to see what the vendors had to offer and how they were going green.

The market encourages people to go green in our habits so from zero waste shopping to using biodegradable items like a cup made from corn to hand crafted items from natural materials to using refills for lotions and potions. It is a family oriented experience with a kids play area, funky music, many eating options and gives the opportunity for local and small business to be showcased.

We can all do our bit to help create a greener planet but it starts with us taking those steps to reduce waste on a local level, taking those habits with us everywhere and doing it on a global scale.

The market used to be held in between Sandy’s Creation in the road before Baobab College but now has a different location but is still held once a month and starts at 9am to 3pm and do carry your reusable bags should you decide to go.
