Binge Worthy: TV Shows

December is a time of sparkle, the Christmas party season, sharing, caring, gift giving, eating and of course the all-important binge watching from movies to tv shows. Here are my top 5 shows right now.

House of Cards

RIP House of Cards, I have been watching this since it was recommended to me by a friend and got into it very quickly, very sad that season 6 will be its last run with only 8 episodes. The show is about a ruthless and ambitious congressman and his wife using their power, influence, manipulation and intimidation to raise to thetop. So, Kevin Spacey’s character was last seen at the end of Season 5 resigning as president and his wife Claire taking charge and becoming the first female president of the United States. Spacey really dominated this show and it will be interesting to see how it will move on from his presence and to see how it ends.

The Bodyguard

This BBC show took Britain by storm and the twitterverse was blowing up very Sunday night. The bodyguard is about David Budd a military veteran who fought in the Middle East and suffers from PTSD, stops a female suicide bomber from blowing up a train. Due to his heroic act he gets promoted to the role of bodyguard for Julia Montague a conservative and controversial politician whose views he doesn’t agree with. It is a very tense drama series that highlights strained relationships, political rivalries and alliances.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

In this 10-part slightly humorous coming of age Netflix show is from the executive producers of Riverdale. Kiernan Shipka (Don Drapper’s daughter in Mad Men) plays the role of Sabrina Spellman the teenage half witch, half mortal while trying to live a normal teenage life and standing against the evil forces that threaten her life and of those around her. As her 16th birthday nears, Sabrina must choose between the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends.

The Walking Dead

Last season of the Walking Dead, Carl died then there was the culmination of an all-out war and rebellion which pitted Rick Grimes and his group against the saviours and their baseball bat carrying, brutal leader, Negan. This season continues  with the fall out of Rick saving Negan’s life  to the dismay of the other group members. A 6-year time jump and huge changes, by now we all know that Andrew Lincoln is out but by some miracle save is still alive, so I want to see where it all goes from here now that the beloved team leader is gone and those sneaky whisperers. For now, my question remains Rick Grimes where art thou?

Arrow

Season 7 has started with a bang and I feel has been the best season so far. It is now a new situation, the premiere picks up five months after Oliver turned himself into the FBI and revealed his identity as the Green Arrow to the public. Now incarcerated at a maximum-security prison and determined to keep a low profile in order to shorten his sentence but that plan doesn’t last long because let’s face it how would the Arrowverse crossover episodes work if he is in prison. Meanwhile, the rest of the vigilantes have taken on new jobs to keep their immunity deal and left their costumes behind but not everyone is following suit especially not Felicity. We have new villains like the longbow hunters working with Ricardo Diaz plus Vinnie Jones guest stars as Danny Brickwell, epic!

Other shows whose return I am anticipating in the new year are Game of Thrones, Mr Robot, The Good Fight (spin-off of The Good Wife), How to Get Away With Murder, Stranger Things, Luther, Power and Billions then I’m all tv’ed out.

Merry Christmas watching!
